I have received a number of suggestions or questions from visitors to Lingerie-Confidant, and take each one seriously. They help me to understand what you would like to see, so I can make the site better for you!
Below are the submissions I have received so far, and my responses. If the person sent me an email address, I also replied to them personally, so they would be sure to get their answer.
I look forward to hearing from any visitor, so please do drop me a line or two and let me know what needs work on this site, or a question you have. Thanks!
Anonymous from Saudi Arabia asked where to buy the items shown in the glossary.
For your convenience I am working on direct links from the glossary entry for each item to suppliers, so please check back regularly.
Ginny from the United States asked: "Hi. I was trying to find the difference between a Baby Doll and a Teddy. Is there any? Thanks."
Hello Ginny! That is a good question, as there are more similarities than differences, and they are easily confused, even by lingerie shops. The main things to note are these:
1. A teddy is generally close fitting, and the panty part is made in one piece with the top part, much like a one piece swimsuit. A teddy can be worn under regular clothing (which is an important point).
2. The baby doll is most often loose fitting, and the length runs down to about the upper thigh, covering the panty (when standing). Baby Dolls are often decorated with ribbons, lace, bows, etc., whereas teddies usually are not. Because it is loose, it would be difficult to wear a baby doll under regular clothing.
I hope the above info is helpful to you Ginny! If you have further questions, please feel free to ask:-) Please do visit www.lingerie-confidant.com again, as I work to expand and improve it. I will make sure to point out the differences between a baby doll and teddy, as I am sure more people wonder about it.
Thanks Ginny, and have a beautiful day!
Haytil from the United States said: "The glossary is very nice and helpful. However, I am still confused as to the difference between a "bustier" and a "basque." You do a good job explaining how a corset is different (more focus on shape-altering through internal components), but I still don't know how a bustier differs from a basque."
Hello Haytil! First, thank you for your compliment on the glossary! I appreciate your kind words!
I am working on a re-write, and adding more items (including a separate panty page and a separate nylon page, among other additions). I also want to sharpen and lengthen the descriptions, so that they are more useful.
To answer your question about the difference between a basque and a bustier (they are very similar, as you have noticed): The main visible difference is that a bustier is shorter, reaching down to the bottom of the ribs or the top of the waist. The basque extends a bit longer, down to the bottom of the waist or the top of the hips.
The main functional difference is that the bustier is more "figure forming" (shaping the waist, tummy and bust), and the basque is more "figure enhancing" (following the bodies natural curves, with only some gentle shaping).
Thank you for your question, Haytil! If I have not answered it well enough, please let me know. Also, if you have any recommendations on what you would like to see on my site, I am open for suggestions as I work to make it better! Because of your question, I will make sure to add this info on the difference between tha basque and bustier to the glossary.
Have a beautiful day!
Warmly,
Maria
